Testing and Diagnosis

The KnowledgePoints Learning Center tutoring program begins with a complete Diagnostic Assessment. Before enrolling at the tutoring center, each student is given a series of tests to pinpoint his or her specific needs. The tests are administered individually and measure achievement level and mastery of specific skills. Our assessment provides a clear picture of your child’s strengths and weaknesses.

This system helps to ensure the quality, consistency and accountability of our program so that no time is spent tutoring your child in areas that are already mastered.

Reading Diagnostic Assessment – This series of tests examines the child’s skill level in receptive vocabulary, phonics, sight vocabulary, functional vocabulary, comprehension, oral reading fluency and confidence, reading rate, study skills and strategies, and auditory discrimination.

Math Diagnostic Assessment – This series of tests examines the child’s skills in receptive vocabulary, math computation, math concepts and applications, basic math facts, and auditory discrimination. This includes assessing skill development in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers as well as fractions, decimals, integers, percentages, measurement, problem solving, geometry, pre-algebra, and algebra.

Study Skills Diagnostic Assessment – This series of tests examines the child’s skill level in receptive vocabulary, phonics, sight vocabulary, functional vocabulary, comprehension, oral reading fluency and confidence, reading rate, and auditory discrimination. In addition, students are assessed on their use of important study skills in up to eleven different categories.

Customized Tutoring

Following the assessment, we design an educational package that fits perfectly with everything we’ve discovered about your child. Choosing from a library with more than 20,000 lessons, we custom-build a tutoring program specifically for your child’s needs — it’s a unique “prescription” for learning written for each and every student. The materials used in the KnowledgePoints Learning Centers Program come from America’s most respected education publishers.

Instruction at the tutoring center is provided on an individualized basis while maintaining a student-to-instructor ratio of no more than 3-to-1. This ensures your child will have the personal attention he or she needs at the learning center, while building the confidence to work independently.

Student progress is reviewed and lesson plans are updated after every tutoring session. As soon as a new skill is mastered, the student immediately graduates to the next level in the subject matter. This keeps the tutoring program interesting and challenging to guarantee the best results for your child.

In addition, we build relationships with parents and classroom teachers by providing regular updates on student progress. This information helps you and the teacher support your child and ensure success.

Motivation and Rewards

At KnowledgePoints Learning Centers, all students experience instant success and positive reinforcement. Our unique motivational system helps students remain positive and focused at the learning center as they work toward their academic goals.

Instant Success – Since students work on materials that are appropriate to their unique skill level, they have the opportunity to experience success frequently at the learning center. This builds confidence and sets a basis for positive results.

Encouragement – Positive reinforcement is the cornerstone of the KnowledgePoints motivation system. Our tutors give constant praise and encouragement to students for their accomplishments.

Success Points / Success Central – Children earn Success Points for completing tasks. The number is based on the difficulty of the activity, the effort put forth, and the tutor’s overall assessment. Success Points can be redeemed at Success Central, a store at the tutoring center stocked with rewards that kids are excited about earning.

Success Time – The last ten minutes of each instructional session is reserved for students to enjoy Success Minutes. During this time students redeem Success Points at Success Central or play games with other students as a reward for hard work.
